When Writing A Life Story

I love to write and have been doing so since I was a little girl. I have written poetry, songs, attempts at short stories, and finally, my memoir, MsMissy Speaks. I never imagined that I would share intimate details of my life with people, especially strangers. It never crossed my mind that my surviving pain and devastation would inspire people all over the world. I’m stunned. I’m also proud.

I’m proud of the woman I’ve become and all the sacrifice and hard work it took to become her. After almost 4 years of being a published author and roughly 6 years on my journey of hope and healing, I still feel like this journey is brand new sometimes. I never stop discovering new ways to grow, heal, evolve, cope with and enjoy life. I’m always looking for opportunities to share my story and uplift those that I meet. The opportunities are endless and I’m still learning how to seize the opportunities that come my way.

My life is a miracle and I love telling people my testimony. God has been so good to me. Only He could transform the broken, wounded, sad, depressed and abused person that I once was into the survivor I am today. On my own, I was drowning. God gave me the courage to call out for help. I only regret not reaching out for help sooner. He gifted me with the opportunity to discover my voice and find and accept my truth.

On my own, I never would have come this far. The emotional stamina I currently have is mind-blowing. I’ve become a fighter — more like a warrior. The cause? Happiness and peace of mind. They mean so much to me. I do whatever it takes to keep a genuine smile on my face. I fight to stay positive and stay focused on what matters most. My wellness is my top priority and I’m always looking for ways to treat me well. It feels good to know that, regardless of how difficult my journey may be, it matters. I’m on a journey of hope and healing and it feels good.

Another crucial gift is that I’ve learned that I am not responsible for the health and wellness of others. I’m not a superhero and I will not be able to save the world. I finally stopped trying and now I’m in a better place of peace. Now I’m able to be of more help to those around me who ask me for help. Because I’ve experienced finding myself and my life’s purpose, I am so passionate about others discovering their autonomy and ability to be in charge of their life and write their own story.

Whatever it takes, I pray that you always move towards living your best life. You deserve to smile, laugh and enjoy life with a passion. Live your life to the fullest! I wish you hope, courage and strength. Remember that you get to write your story. At any point, you can choose to change the narrative. It’s up to you. If I can be of help, during your journey of hope and healing, please let me know.

Hope Always,

💜Missy

Heyyy!! My name is Melissa. I'm affectionately called Missy. I'm a survivor who has learned to thrive! As one who has overcome depression, suicide, abuse and physical illness, I know that hope is real. Everything that I've been through has been for my good. My struggle helped me to more clearly see me and discover hope, happiness, and purpose.
