About me

Heyyyyy!! I’m Missy!

I am a girly girl. I love purses, heels and perfume. Burning a candle while listening to music is my favorite form of self-care. Traveling and spending time with family are my ultimate favorite things to do. In my spare time I enjoy online shopping, playing games on my tablet and watching classic British detective shows. I’m fascinated by the Spanish language. I’m not fluent; but I can communicate fairly well. I can write in Spanish better than I can speak or understand it. Interesting, right?! Since I was a little girl I’ve been writing songs, stories, poetry, etc. I’ve written over 100 songs. Several of my songs have been registered with the US Copyright office.

More about me

I am a survivor of depression, suicide and intimate partner violence. I have lived with chronic physical illness for most of my life. In my 20’s, I became completely disabled. I have described my life as having gone to Hell and back. Because of extreme mental and emotional abuse I nearly suffered a nervous breakdown. I am so blessed and grateful to have discovered that hope is real.

In 2012, I began the fight of my life to find purpose, reconnect with who I was and to refuse to merely exist. I chose to survive. My journey has been complex and beautiful. It hasn’t been easy yet there have been amazing moments. I’m not here to showcase a perfect life. My life is difficult. So many days I wander if I can make it. I still experience the effects of abuse and I live with chronic pain every day. It gets exhausting. But I have learned how to THRIVE. I have learned how to live life despite obstacles and emotions. I have trained my mind to push beyond the pain. I acknowledge my issues. I sit with my feelings for a moment to process them. Then I look for or create solutions.

In 2015, I published my memoir, MsMissy Speaks. I then officially launched my brand, Moments with Missy™. Since then, I’ve hosted events such as Women Empowerment sessions, Relationship Panels, Book-related discussions and open, candid talks about my life lessons, mistakes, victories, and survival. I have had radio opportunities such as being featured on Intellectual Radio as a co-host of the He Said She Said show and being interviewed on Exhale Radio. I’ve been a guest on several podcasts including HER Conversations, TALKKITUP with Angela Mariea and Celeste the Therapist Podcast. I had the wonderful opportunity to be featured as a guest writer in the first issue of the UK-based magazine, Violet Simon.

Professionally, I am an Author, Speaker, and a Life and Relationship Advocate. I hold a degree in Psychology and English. I have experience servicing the severely mentally ill as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Coordinator as well as working with school systems and underprivileged families under the care of the Department of Children and Family Services. In 2018 I completed 40 hours of domestic violence advocacy training and volunteered as a Support Group Facilitator for survivors of domestic violence.
