An Open Letter to My Community
Hi! Maybe this is your first time stumbling across my blog or hearing about Moments with Missy™. Maybe you’ve come this way many times. Either way, I’d like to welcome you to this moment.
So, who is Missy? I’m a girly girl. I love perfume and lotion, bubble baths and candles. I love to travel. I love people. I super duper love family. Dogs are my favorite animal — the bigger, the better. I like being in tune with myself and understanding what makes me tick. I’m the oldest of six children. I’m also a godmother, an aunt, a cousin, and a friend. I’m a girl that’s in love with the King of kings and serves a faithful God. Simply put — I’m saved for real.
I started this blog and my brand because I wanted people to know that they weren’t alone. I wanted people to know that it was okay to hurt and be weak and have horrible things happen to them. It doesn’t make them any less of a person. It’s okay to not have all the answers. We can each take off the masks that we wear and be our true selves. It’s okay to not be perfect. Trust me, I’m a recovering perfectionist. 😁
As you know, life is so unpredictable and full of so many horrifying moments and unbelievably painful experiences. Life is also a gift. It’s meant to be lived and enjoyed. I did not always enjoy life. Actually, for many years I’ve struggled with depression and at one time, was suicidal. I understand darkness. I understand what it’s like to be alone and long for love. I know how it feels to want to escape your life. I’m familiar with abuse and being misused. I have survived it all.
I’d like for you to know that there is hope. I’d like for you to know that you are capable of writing a new chapter or perhaps an entirely new book of your life story. Your future can be more beautiful than you ever imagined. It won’t happen overnight. It probably won’t happen in a few weeks but it can happen. I understand that you may not believe me. That’s okay. I hope that you’d at least continue to follow my blog as I share more of my story and the tips and tricks for survival that I’ve learned along the way.
I still have a lot to learn. I still make tons of mistakes. I’m still on my journey of hope and healing. The important thing is that I realize I’m not a victim anymore. Things have happened to me but I chose to move forward. I’ve been a victim of abuse but I made a decision to walk away. I battle with depression but I don’t suffer in silence. I have taken all my L’s (losses) and have learned how to WIN. Every day that I get up and fight against my struggles is me winning. Every time I’m honest about the obstacles I’m facing when it’s easier to hide and create a false reality, I win. Every time I share my story and refuse to be embarrassed by the the mistakes I’ve made, I win. I’m in the driver’s seat. I’m in control of my life because I made a decision to be. God has been so good to me and I want to share what I’ve learned as I continue moving forward. I hope that you will join me!
